Last week, I spoke with, and counselled a young lady who had been fraught with a lot of issues in the past 7 years or so. She had been a product of a broken marriage between her parents; she had gotten pregnant and had a child along the line, she had kept multiple partners to maintain a good lifestyle and cater for her child who is now in school, etc.
After she finished speaking, i asked her a couple of questions, counselled her and made her see that all she has been faced with, point to the fact that she needs God. She needed to get on track with God for her to be able to tackle all outstanding issues in her life, and more importantly to live and fulfil her destiny.
I asked her if she had at any time in her life surrendered her life to God. She replied in the negative saying that it was not worth it, that all the people she had seen who professed faith in God had lifestyles which directly contradicted the faith. She then went ahead to give specific examples of people to back up her point.
My response to her was a question which i’ll like to ask you as well; “IS IT YOUR BUSINESS?”. Does another person’s life serve as a yardstick for how you should live yours or does it give you sufficient basis for living carelessly?
There’s a saying i like that captures my thoughts very well in this case:
“Excuses are monuments of fools, they’re tools of the incompetent, he that is wise will not live by them”
That statement sounds harsh but it’s the truth. It’s very clear that life is a personal race and everyone, at the end of time, will be accountable to God for the life he lives on the earth. It is also clear that life without God is headed nowhere but destruction, so why not make our lives worth it by placing it in His hands?
Nobody lives your life for you; it is YOURS and your responsibility to determine how it turns out. An excuse is the worst reason you can give for living a sub-standard life. It’s not your business o. Choose life, so that you will live.
Have a great week!
