LOOK UP

Hello Friends, i’ll like to conclude my last post by sharing a thought on the second verse of the scripture in Hebrews 12.

“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God”. – Heb 12:2

Looking unto Jesus connotes looking up; and not looking at happenings around us. Still within the context of marriage, if you look around, you will falter and compromise, you will see your marriage by the current standards in the world and therefore make a mess of the union. Around us, distrust and unfaithfulness are normal, so when we fix our eyes on those things, we gradually lower our standards until ultimately, a breakdown occurs.

Looking up involves constantly benchmarking our marriage relationship with Christ’s marriage to the church. Marriage is a covenant, and we must treat it as God sees it, this is made easier by engaging His resources in making things work.

For the joy of marital bliss and fulfilment, we’re to see discomfort in the way as a phase and handle them with a positive attitude, we’re to prefer one another in love, serve and make sacrifices. There’s nothing that keeps us in check more than knowing the things God hates and keeping away from them. I’ve heard it said by some married men that they love their wives so much and don’t joke with them, but they regularly indulge in extra-marital affairs. Is it that they don’t love their wives? Not necessarily. They need to look up to Jesus and make God’s standard their benchmark.

The world is on a gradually degenerating slide, and in order to keep our heads up, we need to make our focus, the true and sure standard. The way to have an enviable and outstanding, model marriage is to keep the focus. Look up, that’s the way up.}
