WHO IS ASKING?

73329316

“Everyone tries to define this thing called Character. It’s not hard. Character is doing what’s right when nobody’s looking.”

I can’t believe i haven’t written any article all week! It’s been one very packed week for me, also, in the course of the week, i almost came down with malaria and had to curb it fast.

For the past few months in church, we’ve been treating the subject of character. i believe Lack of character is at the heart of Nigeria’s current major issue of corruption and people need to hear this message till it becomes their way of life, the issue can never be overflogged.

Last Sunday, my Pastor said each person should ask his/her neighbour, “Are you changing?” He then asked what the neighbours said. He smiled and said each person should not bother about the details of what the neighbour said as their responses couldn’t have been accurate. He said, once a person begins to change, the people that will know that the change is for real are spouses, family members, colleagues at work, etc. Those are the people that see and experience the real you in your worst state. They are the ones qualified to do the asking and give an accurate answer.

I’ve heard a number of people say they don’t like being close to prominent people, especially pastors, because they don’t want to experience unpleasant surprises, they don’t want to see their bad sides and skeletons. This is a topic for another day. What i have to say is this, For example, anybody can live with me, because what i won’t do at outside, i won’t do at home and vice versa.

We need to quit having double standards. The way to be truly free is to get rid of cobwebs and not have to watch our backs to know if the pastor or cell leader is around before we “scatter ground”….lol. Some people put God aside, misbehave and put God back on. Let’s understand our weaknesses, and engage God’s help in fixing them permanently, and let’s surround ourselves with people who can help us through the process of changing. The person whose perspective is all important in as far as our character is concerned, is God himself and our ultimate goal is to be like him.

The reason why there’s a lot of focus on character is because increase will come soon, and what guarantees how we handle it and whether it will last is our character.

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

More quotes on Character:

“Good character is more to be praised than outstanding talent. Most talents are, to some extent, a gift. Good character, by contrast, is not given to us. We have to build it piece by piece — by thought, choice, courage and determination”. John Luther

“The measure of a man’s real character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out”. – Thomas B. Macaulay

Selah….

Have a great long weekend!

Thanks for this write up. In fact I love the above sentence in your write up and just to add to it I want to say “if increase will come and come to us despite the so called economic meltdown, we must all be persons of character.

Little wonder it has been said a thousand times that “a person can’t rise beyond his level of knowledge and character.”

Also, it a good thing that character is not talent and it not something to be bought (it could have been out of the reach of many).

It’s just a thing of choice.

Without character it is easy to compromise in this season of global economic meltdown. It takes charcter to remain on top…God bless you.

    Nice one Topsie

We, esp ladies, often confuse character with personality but knowing the difference between both is very important.
Personality may attract friends but it takes character to keep them.
Personality is like your packaging while character is the content. Being attracted by the package of a product is one thing and actually enjoying the content is quite another.

May God give us the discipline to build a character that will ensure a peacefull and productive tomorow.

    Cheers!
